Market Performance: Breaking the Two-Week Losing Streak
The Indian stock market ended the week of November 21, 2025, in a broadly cautious mood, with headline indices consolidating near record highs but noticeable pressure across mid-cap and small-cap segments. The period was also marked by significant macroeconomic developments and global volatility, though no major individual stock moves will be discussed as per your request.
Indian Market Performance
The BSE Sensex closed the week near 85,232, down roughly 401 points (0.47%) on Friday, while the NSE Nifty 50 settled at 26,068, falling about 124 points (-0.47%) on profit-booking after touching record highs earlier in the week.
The Nifty Bank index, approximating 59,000, underperformed slightly due to weakness in private lenders.
Market breadth was negative as decliners outnumbered advancers, with mid-cap and small-cap indices dropping around 1.2–1.3%.
The India VIX volatility index spiked 10% to about 13.4, suggesting a more cautious near-term outlook.

Macro-Economic Developments
HSBC’s flash India’s Composite Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for November fell to 59.9 from 60.4 in October, marking the slowest private sector growth in six months. Manufacturing output dove, partly offset by stable services performance.
The slowdown was attributed to heavy rains and subdued global demand, especially due to the U.S. imposing 50% tariffs on key Indian exports. India’s merchandise trade deficit reached a record high, while annual export volumes to the U.S. fell nearly 9% compared to last year.
In response, the Indian government rolled out over $5 billion in support for exporters, including fresh credit guarantees and soft loans.
The GST-led boost to consumer demand appears to have plateaued, with optimism for business output over the next year falling to a multi-year low.
Inflation eased to a record low (0.25%), bolstering hopes that the Reserve Bank of India might cut rates by 25 basis points at its next policy review.
Currency pressures intensified, with the Indian rupee dropping to a record low of around ₹89.40 per USD, raising concerns about higher import costs.
Company and Sectoral Updates
Reliance Industries posted a strong quarterly performance, lifting market sentiment in the early part of the week before broad profit-taking returned.
Across sectors, IT and financials saw mixed momentum due to global macro pressures. No major new corporate scandals, mergers, or regulatory changes were reported during the week.
Global Market Top Stories (Nov 15 – 21, 2025)
U.S. markets finished a volatile week with some optimism after the Dow Jones Industrial Average rebounded nearly 500 points, supported by speculation that the Federal Reserve could cut interest rates in December.
Housing stocks in the U.S. rallied sharply on prospects of rate cuts, while tech stocks remained under pressure following weak earnings and sector rotation.
The S&P 500 Health Care Index bucked the trend, climbing 5% in November, led by key pharma names.
European equity markets were broadly lower as global volatility dragged indices down, with regional tech stocks hitting multi-month lows and risk sentiment souring.
Asian and emerging markets, including India, experienced a continued selloff, reflective of weak global cues and cautious central bank policies.
Summary
The Indian stock market was resilient near record highs but showed signs of rotation and increased caution, paralleled by weaker macro signals and global volatility. Support for exporters and declining inflation provided a silver lining, but risks from slowing growth, high tariffs, and persistent currency weakness remain in focus. Global sentiment was dominated by discussions of monetary policy, sector-specific rallies, and ongoing international uncertainty.
