Which Banks Offer Children’s Savings Accounts with Debit Card in India?
Bank of Baroda
Bank of Baroda offers a debit card for its Baroda Champ Savings Account. The card is issued in the name of the parent or guardian if the child is 10-15 years of age. For kids aged above 15 years, it will be issued in their own name. The same age restriction applies for the bank’s Gen-Next Junior account.
The limit per transaction is Rs. 3,000 per day for ATM banking, mobile banking, POS and e-commerce. However, the overall limit is Rs. 5,000 per day.
Canara Bank
Canara Bank offers its Junior Saving Account for children above 10 years of age to operate the account independently. The child gets a debit card in her own name with a monthly withdrawal limit of Rs. 5,000. The bank does not offer a debit card with its Canara NSIGSE Savings Bank Deposit Account that is aimed at girl children.
IDBI Bank
IDBI Bank offers debit cards for its Power Kidz Children’s Savings Account as well as the Being Me Youth Savings Account. Children above 10 years with a Power Kidz Account in their own name get a debit card with their name with ATM withdrawal or POS transaction limit of Rs. 2,000.
Punjab National Bank
The children savings accounts from Punjab National Bank: PNB Junior SF Account and PNB Vidyarthi SF Account, both come with debit card facility. The bank has a limit of Rs. 5,000 on debit card use per day for PNB Junior SF Account. There is an annual maintenance charge for the debit card.
State Bank of India
Pehli Kadam and Pehli Udaan children savings accounts from State Bank both come with debit cards. This card is usually personalised with a photo of the child. The daily transactions limit is Rs. 5,000 with Rs. 2,000 within that limit allotted for bill payments, prepaid mobile top-ups, etc.
UCO Bank
The UCO Smart Kids Savings Bank Scheme comes with a personalised ATM card. The account can be opened by any literate child above the age of 10 years without any need for joint ownership with parents or guardian. Children can take out up to Rs. 3,000 per day through ATMs or net banking with a monthly limit of Rs. 15,000.
PRIVATE SECTOR BANKS
Axis Bank
The Future Stars Savings Account from Axis Bank gives account holders a Visa Classic Debit Card with a daily withdrawal limit of Rs. 1,500. In metro and urban areas, there is an issuance fee of Rs. 200 and annual fee of Rs. 100.
Dhanlaxmi Bank
The Dhanam Genius Savings Account for children from Dhanlaxmi Bank offers a complimentary ATM card with the option to get a personalised photo on the card for a payment of Rs. 200. Account holders have up to Rs. 5,000 as limit for ATM withdrawals or POS transactions.
Federal Bank
Federal Bank offers two savings accounts called Young Champ and YuvaMitra for children. Young Champ account holders also gets a specially designed debit card with a daily ATM or POS transaction limit of Rs. 2,500. The YuvaMitra account can be opened by any child after she has passed class 10 exams and comes with daily cash withdrawal and POS limits of Rs. 50,000.
HDFC Bank
HDFC Bank offers a dedicated children’s savings account called Kids Advantage Account. The account has an international ATM-cum-Debit card that has a daily limit of Rs. 2,500 for ATM withdrawals and Rs. 10,000 for POS transactions.
ICICI Bank
ICICI Bank offers debit cards with its two children’s accounts known as Young Stars Account and Smart Star Savings Account. Young Stars account holders get a debit card with daily limit of 2,500 for ATM and POS transactions. Smart Star Savings account holders get a per day limit of 5,000 each for ATM and POS transactions. The card has a Zero Liability feature in both accounts. This feature protects against unauthorised transactions if the card is lost or misplaced if the same is communicated to ICICI Bank within 15 days.
IndusInd Bank
IndusInd Bank offers its Indus Young Saver account holders a personalised debit card if they are over 12 years of age.
IDFC First Bank
IDFC First Bank offers a minor’s savings account for children whose parent or guardian has an account with the bank. The debit card has to be specifically opted for and comes with a transaction limit of Rs. 10,000 for domestic ATMs and POS sales.
Karnataka Bank
Karnataka Bank’s KBL Kishore kid’s savings account is available for children in the 10-18 years age group. The account comes with a complimentary debit card with daily limit of Rs. 10,000 for cash withdrawals and of Rs. 5,000 for POS transactions.
Karur Vysya Bank
Karur Vysya Bank offers two dedicated accounts for children called the Jumbo Kids Savings Account and the Student Savings Account. The Jumbo Kids Savings Account for children below 12 years of age comes with a Visa ATM card which can be used for only ATM withdrawals and not debit or POS purchases.
The Student Savings Account for kids above 12 years of age comes with an ATM debit card that can be used for cash withdrawals for free at Karur Vysya ATMs and up to 5 times for free at other bank ATMs that are a part of the National Financial Switch. There is an annual maintenance charge of Rs. 75 on the card with a limit of 90 debt transactions on the card for every six months.
Kotak Mahindra Bank
Kotak Mahindra Bank offers a children-focussed account called Junior – The Savings Account for Kids. The children’s savings account comes with a personalised debit card that has a daily withdrawal limit of Rs. 5,000 for kids above 10 years of age.
Lakshmi Vilas Bank
Lakshmi Vilas Bank offers the kid’s savings account called Savings Youth Power for children in the 12-24 years age group. The account offers an international debit card with a daily limit of Rs. 5,000. The card is complimentary for the first year but has a fee of Rs. 100 from the second year onwards.
South Indian Bank
South Indian Bank offers a children and youth-centric savings account called the Junior Savings Account. Meant primarily for students, the account comes with a complimentary ATM-debit card.
Tamilnad Mercantile Bank
Tamilnad Mercantile Bank provides a dedicated savings account for children called the Little Super Star Savings Account. The account comes with a complimentary ATM-debit card that has a cash withdrawal limit of Rs. 5,000 per day. Guardians are given the right to lower this amount up to Rs. 1,000 if she so deems fit. The POS limit is capped at Rs. 2,500. Account holders get up to 10 complimentary ATM withdrawals with a charge of Rs. 10 for each withdrawal thereafter.
YES Bank
YES Bank offers the My First YES Account for children of its account holders. It comes with a complimentary ATM-debit card for kids above 10 years of age. The card has customisable withdrawal limits of Rs. 1,000, Rs. 2,000 or Rs. 5,000, which can be defined by the parent.
